Dreary Sunday

Despite starting with blue skies this morning, today has turned into a dreary wet Sunday - again!  I'm beginning to long for spring to be sprung - winter has lasted too long this year. Mind you, the snow certainly looked pretty, even if it wasn't very helpful for the practicalities of life.  And it did give me some lovely ideas for Christmas cards this year (a bit ahead of myself perhaps?).

Now Mo's Digital Challenge this week was a fun one (forgive the clumsy segue, you'll see why in a moment):

'Make any shape card EXCEPT a square or rectangle. That means something fun like a
circle or other shape - as long as it isn't square or rectangle or
fold into a square or rectangle shape it will work.'

Here's my card:

Papers: Plain white card and white glitter card from stash.

(I have to admit that I'm a little concerned that I haven't quite been as true to the challenge as I normally would try to be, in that, technically, my card does fold into a square but I'm letting myself off, even if no-one else does!)

Unfortunately, the photographs don't pick up some of the detail.  So here's the description:

I printed Mo's image on to a piece of plain white card and coloured it up with my Copics.  (I found out that wood is a difficult texture to master!).  I then cut out the basic house shape and window around the completed image, so that it was all on one level.  Then I took my score board and scored at half-inch intervals from the bottom to the top of the house shape, obviously taking care not to score across the coloured image or window.  I lightly chalked the resulting clapboard effect with some alabaster chalk, just to knock the white back a little and, 'in the flesh' it is really effective.

I coloured up some strips of wood and turned these into the window frame and fascias.  The fascias were applied with 3D tape so that they would stand proud. I added a little acetate to the window and a couple of red gingham ribbon strips for curtains and added punched fronds to the wreath. Then I assembled the easel card and added a deep strip of white glittered card and the sentiment.  Then the fun bit - using my Snow Writer I added the snow and glittered it for extra sparkle.  I not only added snow around the bottom of the door, but I continued the effect on to the flat part of the card, to make it look as though the snow was really on the ground (well, that was the intention!)  The following photographs show the details a bit better:

If nothing else, it was lots of fun to do and I now have an extra Christmas card for this year!

I haven't got much crafting done this weekend as Daughter has been home.  We all went to see the final tour performance of 'Riverdance' at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford yesterday afternoon.  WOW!  It was incredible.  Two hours of sheer indulgence - the music, the voices, and the dancing.  Oh boy, the dancing!  It was an absolutely amazing show and I'm so glad we got to see it.  I have put in my request to see the show at Radio City Music Hall next - well you never know, we might win the lottery!

So I'm off to Mr Linky and then I'll sort out my challenges for this week so that I can get down to some serious crafting tomorrow.

Happy crafting.
