Today the sun is shining and the forecast for the week ahead is good, so it looks as though we could finally be starting summer here in the UK. And Cupcake Craft Challenge has a most appropriate challenge this week - 'Summer Delights', asking for projects with a summery feel. So what could be better than a little summer fairy?
Image: Mo's Digital Pencil, 'Summer Fairy Finna'
Papers: October Afternoon (of course!)
I love this image - it reminds me of lazy days by the river. It just evokes the warmth of the sun and the peace of the riverside and, aaaaaaaah, makes me feel fuzzy inside. And she's a dream to colour!
I wanted to make something more of her fairy wings but wasn't in a glittery mood. I wanted her wings to lift from the page, as though blown by a gentle breeze (get me, waxing lyrical!), so I had a little look in my stash and came up with some pretty glitter-dotted velum. I traced the wings and then gently embossed the lines on to the vellum. I had already lightly coloured her wings on the image before cutting out and sticking the vellum on top. You can see all this better in the close up shot below:
Happy that Finna now had proper fairy wings, I chose some pretty summery papers (ok, so check isn't summery, but it goes well!) and added the sentiment, 'dream'. And there she is, Summer Fairy Finna - what a cutie!
My office at work has a huge window on to the street, so I can see the sunshine. Mmmm, how long will I spend today wishing I was at home in the garden, drinking chilled lemonade and reading a favourite book. I shall be dreaming just as much as Finna today - ah well, it'll soon be the weekend!
I'd better get on with some work now, so I hope the sun is shining wherever you are and wish you ...
... Happy crafting.
